All wines contain sulfites, a naturally occurring byproduct of the fermentation process. To make a wine of consistent stability and quality some sulfites must be added to those occurring naturally (to inhibit the growth of molds, bacteria and yeasts, to limit the oxidation that results in browning and, to maintain the natural flavor of the wine). Wines ‘made from organically grown grapes’ typically have a minimum levels of sulfites added.
